Philosophy of Assessment

The grading system for all programs would be as follows: 90-100 (grade A), 80-89 (grade B), 70-79 (grade C) and 60-69 (grade D). A student must obtain grade D or above to pass a course. A mark below 60 is a fail. After every exam cycle, the marks for each of the courses are multiplied by the number of credits for that course and the results are totaled and divided by the total number of credits up to that point to give the cumulative grade point average. The minimum cumulative grade point average required for graduation in all programs is 60%.
The philosophy of assessment in Ramah Bible College is based on the fact that candidates understand, digest relevant information and apply the principles thereof for their spiritual development. Christian education is a lifelong endeavor and not just a mere academic exercise for a limited time period. A student may opt to re-sit a course either because he or she failed it or was absent at the time when the paper was examined. In all cases without exception the candidate would be required to pay a re-sit fee of £20 to the college. A re-sit exam would be arranged officially at every given examination period. There must be at least five candidates for a re-sit to take place otherwise the candidate would have no choice but to wait for the next time the course is officially time tabled. A candidate or a group of candidates who do not make up the minimum number may choose to pay the minimum £100 fee for the exam to take place. There are basically three reasons why this fee is to be levied by the college. Firstly, the payment of such fees will discourage students who postpone examinations due to an undisciplined lifestyle. Secondly, there are costs incurred by the college when an exam is retaken. For instance part time lecturers are paid substantial hourly rates by the college. Apart from logistical costs, labor costs are also expended in any re-sit. Thirdly, fees paid by students in the event of a re-sit ultimately increases the financial base of the institution and in the Christian context must be seen as sowing to advance the ministry, of which Bible colleges are a part. A candidate may re-sit any exam only once. A failure in the re-sit exam, implies that the candidate would have to enroll in the respective course again and pay the required tuition fee.
